Software to provide performance scorecards

I am working with a client on the distribution of performance metrics throughout their organization.  As I recall my past efforts in this area and look at a few of the more recent software products being sold, I still find that they are written by programmers who love programming and software coolness.  It seems like they spent all of their programming time on what I consider as NVA.  They all provide simplistic charting as I might see in Microsoft Excel.  Not enough consideration of the “meat” with too much bun.

I am still surprised that most systems do not include control charting in their options.  There are bar charts (poor choice), pie charts (poor choice) and line charts (better choice), but no control charts.  How can you judge a process capability or performance without assessing stability?

The only answer I can come up with is that, in the effort to keep it simple, you can not introduce control charting because they do not want to teach it and the do not want to create logic to deal with out of control conditions.

But I might be wrong.
