From manufacturing to transactional and from product to service, can Lean Six Sigma fully enable all companies to capitalize on providing value to their customers on an enterprise level? And if so, then how? This is one of many questions one will hear within the corridors of small, medium, and large-size company operations meetings on a weekly, if not daily, basis. Let us be honest in saying that short answer to the question above is “yes”; now let us focus on how. We often hear of the traditional benefits of departmentalized projects ranging from effective streamlined actions, reduced firefighting, and increased quality. Those objectives are commendable. However, the real value is found in enhancing tangible benefits to extend beyond the departments and to cascade throughout the company as an enterprise-level culture and system. Besides financial savings and efficient processes, the primary tangible benefits are that having an enterprise-level Lean Six Sigma implementation, such as the Integrated Enterprise Excellence (IEE) system, as opposed to keeping it departmentalized is that an enterprise-level Lean Six Sigma implementation acts as an adhesive bond in collectively and cohesively joining together an organization’s infrastructure, processes, and people. These are the very three components and elements of every company’s business existence, and each can drive both negative results to the bottom line when not synchronized with one another on an enterprise level. Not only do all three enhance your customers’ value of today and tomorrow, but each impacts your very own enterprise value of today and tomorrow - from the CEO to the senior directors to the middle managers down to the frontline workers and back to the customer. Creating and sustaining this type of enterprise-level culture and system, and continually improving upon your customers’ feedback gives greater business existence to obtaining profitable, sustainable growth in your customer base. A truly effective, value-add, enterprise-level Lean Six Sigma implementation requires a culture and system of people, processes, and infrastructure effectively working together and driving the correct behavior to improve your bottom line. And in the words of Mastercard, having a culture and system like this is “priceless”. Joining your organization’s Lean Six Sigma culture and system on an enterprise level can result in offspring where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts for both the company and customers. The ability to form a successful customer base and cash flow that exceeds in growth plays a vital role in your company's success and existence. It's not enough to get engaged in a one department Lean Six Sigma program or affair; you want to reap the tangible benefits of being married on an enterprise level.
