eSmarter Blog: Why
do most Business Improvement Program Deployments Fail?
This
is a guest blog from Rick Haynes, Master Black Belt, Smarter
Solutions, Inc.
Part of
my job involves talking with companies that are looking to
build a business improvement program. Most are looking to
hire in people to kick it off. The companies are looking for
recommendations for people to bring on-board. A number of
things come up in the discussions that used to surprise me,
but no longer do.

Cp
and Cpk Process Capability Reporting Confusion and Resolution
Written
by Forrest W. Breyfogle, III
My thought
process for this is to do the Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk to understand
the baseline metric is obtainable & sustainable under
the current conditions.
In addition,
to the above mentioned being done first, then the hypothesis
testing be performed to see which improvement gives the best
solution for the project. Are you suggesting that the Cp,
Cpk, Pk, Ppk, not be performed because we already know this
is a stable process?
If this
is the case, then why would we have the firefighting mode,
when we already have a stable process? Is there more too the
firefighting which results back to the project scope of the
project?.
What
are your thoughts on this?

Social
Networking for continuing education
Written
by Rick Haynes |
I am
not sure if you are a user of the social networking tools
available today. You do read a blog, so that is one step.
I have been a slow adopter of these tools because the entire
idea of being social is tough for a person like me. But I
am beginning to like it.
Linked-In
is a network that I have participated in as part of my job.
We used it to reconnect old students with each other and to
share information about our business and upcoming events.
I was ok with that because I also found many of my friends
from past jobs and such. Reconnecting with them was worth
the effort. I have now tried another use of this network and
find it quite interesting.

Lean
Six Sigma Executive & Champion Training Considerations
|
Effective
Lean Six Sigma Executive and Lean Six Sigma Champion
training is essential for a successful deployment. However,
one needs to closely examine not only the content of
this training but the strategy for the deployment of
the Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques.
Consider how many Lean Six Sigma Master
Black Belts and Lean Six Sigma Black Belts are now losing
their jobs in these tough corporate economic times.
What does this tell us? In my mind, what we are experiencing
is the ramifications of executive management not realizing
the value of process improvement effort from their Lean
Six Sigma deployments. We would think that when times
get tough financially Lean Six Sigma work should be
in even more demand but that is not the case.
Why
is there a title of a Lean Six Sigma Champion? This
white paper suggests that there are basically three
reasons and has a description of the deployment scope
and benefits for each alternative.
