QUESTION: Business Process Improvement – Is this about efficiency or effectiveness?
RESPONSE: Business process improvement is about both efficiency and effectiveness. However, have you noticed that when times get tough and companies downsize one of the first to go are the business process improvement folks.
Why? Executives have often noticed how 100 million in savings is reported from process improvement projects but nobody can find the money. Lean Six Sigma and other process improvement methodologies are not an overall business system which integrates predictive scorecards with analytically/innovatively determined strategies and creation of process improvement efforts so that enterprise as a whole benefits and customer desires have “wow” perceptions.
A means to accomplish this enhanced business system integration is described in the article “C-Suite: The Need to Re-think our Business System’s Strategic Planning, Scorecard Creation, and Process Improvement Efforts”
The techniques go beyond lean six sigma and the balanced scorecard.
